ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that since the moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal was not sighted, Monday will be the 30th of Safar. Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), will be observed on Saturday, September 6.
The meeting for the moon sighting was held after Asr prayers at the Pakistan Meteorological Department, presided over by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad. Zonal Committees also met in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar. SUPARCO had forecasted the moon’s birth on August 23, noting that by August 24 evening, its age would favor visibility, especially in coastal areas.
The moon sighting process is vital in the Islamic calendar as it determines the beginning of months and major religious events. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee reviews zonal reports, considering factors like weather, lunar age, and visibility. SUPARCO’s scientific input supports traditional methods with modern technology.
