Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been hit by powerful flash floods over the past 48 hours, resulting in significant destruction and widespread sorrow across the province.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 307 people have lost their lives, including men, women, and children. Many are injured, and thousands of people have been affected.

The KP government has announced a day of sorrowing. Flags are flying at half-mast in honor of those who have lost their lives.
Families around the province are grieving. Many have lost their loved ones, homes, and everything they owned.
One survivor from Swat said,
“The flood came so fast… we had no time to run. My house is gone.”
Emergency Help Underway
- The 911 Helpline has been activated across Pakistan to help and support flood victims.
- Special control rooms have been set up in KP to handle the emergency situation.
- Rescue teams, including PDMA, local authorities, and volunteers, are working hardly day and night to help those affected.
Government and Army Response For Flood Victims
- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to provide fast relief and send food, water, and medicine to the affected.
- The Pakistan Army is actively involved in the rescue efforts. Soldiers have donated one day’s salary and more than 600 tons of rations.
- Additional militaries are being sent to support relief activities in affected areas.
Helicopter Crash During Relief Mission
A tragic incident happened during the relief work. A government helicopter carrying supplies to Bajaur, destroyed. All five crew members on board were martyred. They are being laid to rest with full state honors.
More Rain Predicted
The PDMA has warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue until August 21, which could worsen the flooding situation, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Thousands of people have been homeless. Many are hungry, clean water, or shelter. In areas like Swat, Mansehra, and Bajaur, families are stranded and some have taken shelter on rooftops.
