Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has posted that compensation for families of those who lost their lives in the recent floods will be doubled, rising from Rs1 million to Rs2 million.
During his visit to the district of Buner, which has been stricken by flood, CM Gandapur led a meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office to assess the current situation and supervise relief and recovery efforts.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar attended the meeting with provincial ministers, the chief secretary, and local administration officials. A moment of prayer was observed in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the floods.
Officials summarized the CM, reporting that harsh cloudbursts damaged 5,380 homes over seven village councils in Buner. The floods have so far resulted in 209 confirmed deaths, with 134 individuals currently missing and 159 injured.
Rescue and relief operations are underway, with resources including 10 excavators, 22 tractors, 10 de-watering pumps, five water bowsers, and 10 bulldozers. The operations are supported by 223 rescue personnel, 205 doctors, 260 paramedics, 400 police officers, and 300 civil defence volunteers, with assistance from the Pakistan Army.
Victims are being provided with essential supplies such as food, tents, medical aid, blankets, and mattresses.
Road clearance efforts have reopened six kilometres of road in Pir Baba and 3.5 kilometres in Gokand. Debris from landslides has been removed at 15 locations.
An emergency relief operation is underway in eight districts, including Buner, with 3,500 flood victims rescued so far.
