Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Vivienne, has officially removed her father’s surname from her legal name. A California judge approved the 18-year-old’s request on November 2, allowing her to use Vivienne Marcheline Jolie instead of Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt.
The decision makes Vivienne the fourth of the former couple’s six children to legally remove Pitt from their surname, following her older siblings Shiloh, Maddox, and Zahara.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE and USA TODAY, the judge approved the petition without any recorded objections. Vivienne had filed the request in Los Angeles County Superior Court in July, shortly after celebrating her 18th birthday.
Although she had already used her mother’s surname professionally, the latest ruling makes the change official.
Vivienne Jolie’s Name Change Gets Court Approval

Vivienne’s legal name change follows a process that began during the summer of 2026. In July, she filed a petition to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The reason listed in the filing was personal, and she did not publicly provide further details about her decision.
Under California’s legal process, the requested name change was also announced through published notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal. The notices appeared over several weeks during July and August, giving interested parties an opportunity to raise objections.
No objections were recorded before the hearing.
On November 2, Judge Virginia Keeny approved the request. The court order confirmed that her legal name had been changed to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
Representatives for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt declined to comment when contacted by USA TODAY. Vivienne has also not publicly explained the reasons behind her decision.
Vivienne Had Already Used the Jolie Surname on Broadway

The court approval formalizes a name Vivienne had already been using professionally. In May 2024, Vivienne Jolie appeared in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders. She worked alongside her mother, Angelina Jolie, who served as a producer on the musical.
Rather than taking a prominent onstage role, Vivienne contributed behind the scenes as a producer’s assistant. Her involvement offered an early look at her interest in theater and creative production.
Angelina previously spoke positively about working with her daughter on the project. During the musical’s Broadway opening in April 2024, the actress described Vivienne as someone who took her responsibilities seriously.
The production went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2024.
At the time, the use of Jolie rather than Jolie-Pitt in the Playbill attracted attention. However, the professional credit alone did not establish that Vivienne had legally changed her name. The November 2026 court ruling now confirms the formal change.
Vivienne Is the Fourth Jolie-Pitt Child to Remove Brad Pitt’s Surname

Vivienne’s decision follows similar legal changes involving three of her older siblings.
Shiloh, Maddox, and Zahara have each legally adopted the Jolie surname, making Vivienne the fourth of Angelina and Brad’s six children to complete the process.
Shiloh Jolie
Shiloh was the first among her siblings to officially drop Pitt from her last name. She filed a petition shortly after turning 18 in May 2024. Her request changed her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
The decision attracted significant media attention because it was the first publicly confirmed legal surname change among the children.
Maddox Jolie
Maddox, the former couple’s eldest child, also completed his name change in September 2026.
A judge approved his request on September 14, changing his legal name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
Like Vivienne, Maddox had previously been associated professionally with the Jolie surname.
Zahara Jolie
Zahara became the third sibling to officially take Pitt out of her name.
Her application was accepted on September 28, 2026, and she is now officially recognized as Zahara Marley Jolie.
She had already introduced herself publicly using her mother’s surname during a sorority event at Spelman College in 2023.
With Vivienne’s latest court approval, four of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s six children have now legally removed Pitt from their surnames.
Who Are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Other Children?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have six kids: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, along with twins Vivienne and Knox.
Their two remaining children are Pax and Knox.
As of November 3, 2026, neither has been publicly confirmed to have completed a legal name change.
Knox, however, has reportedly used the name Knox Jolie in connection with his high school graduation in June 2026. Using a different name publicly does not necessarily mean a legal change has taken place.
The siblings have generally maintained private lives despite growing up in one of Hollywood’s most recognizable families.
A Look at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Family Timeline

The latest development comes years after the actors’ relationship and subsequent divorce became major subjects of public attention.
Jolie and Pitt met while working on Mr. & Mrs. Smith started a relationship in 2005. They married in 2014 and separated in September 2016.
Their separation was followed by a lengthy legal process involving their divorce, family arrangements, and other disputes. They were declared legally single in 2019, while their divorce settlement was finalized in December 2024.
The former couple have largely kept their children’s personal lives out of public discussion, although individual developments involving the family have continued to attract media attention.
In September 2026, PEOPLE reported that a source described communication between Pitt and his children as limited. The same report included a separate source’s allegation of parental alienation. That characterization is a disputed account, not an established explanation for the children’s decisions.
Neither Vivienne nor her siblings has publicly stated that their individual legal name changes were made for the same reason.
What Vivienne’s Name Change Means for the Jolie-Pitt Family

Vivienne’s legal name change is another significant development involving Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s family.
While her earlier Broadway credit showed that she was already professionally using Jolie, the November ruling gives that name formal legal recognition.
The decision also brings the number of siblings who have legally removed Pitt from their surnames to four.
Vivienne has not publicly discussed the personal considerations behind her request. For now, the court approval establishes one clear fact: she is legally known as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
