Sarah Jessica Parker may be closely associated with Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic fashion. Still, she keeps a clear boundary between her own wardrobe and the clothes she wore on Sex and the City. Although Parker has access to the character’s archived wardrobe, she says she rarely wears those pieces in her personal life.
Speaking at the New York City Ballet’s 2026 Fall Fashion Gala on October 1, Parker explained that the clothes are preserved as an archive and are closely connected to Carrie’s character and the show’s history. Many of the pieces are unique, and some were worn extensively during filming.
Parker compared wearing Carrie’s clothes in everyday life to wearing the costume of another character she played, Sarah Sanderson in Hocus Pocus. For her, there is an important separation between herself and Carrie, even though fashion has always been a major part of the character’s identity.

Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe became one of the most recognizable aspects of Sex and the City. Her looks included memorable Manolo Blahnik shoes, Fendi accessories and distinctive designer dresses, helping make the character a lasting television fashion figure.
Parker has made a few exceptions. In 2025, she revealed that she had occasionally pulled pieces from Carrie’s archive for personal events. One example was a birthday party in England, where she decided to wear something from the collection. She also explained that she carefully considers the occasion and surroundings before wearing an archived piece because she does not want to risk damaging something that may be difficult to replace.
Her comments in 2026 clarify that these moments remain unusual rather than part of her regular wardrobe. Parker continues to view Carrie’s clothing as an important record of the character and the series.
The separation also reflects how Parker approaches Carrie as a character. Despite their similarities and shared connection to fashion, she has previously explained that she does not want to merge her own life with Carrie’s. That distinction has allowed her to continue playing the character while maintaining her own identity outside the role.
Parker’s latest comments come as she continues to attract attention for her personal fashion choices. At the 2026 New York City Ballet Fall Fashion Gala, she wore a sheer Simone Rocha look with pink ribbons and an elaborate braided hairstyle, creating a look that drew comparisons to Carrie without actually coming from Carrie’s original wardrobe.
