All government and private schools in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will remain closed on August 15 and 16, 2025 due to heavy rains and the threat of flooding and landslides.
The AJK Elementary and Secondary Education Department has issued an official notification confirming the two-day closure of all educational institutions across the region. The decision was taken as a safety measure following warnings about overflowing rivers, blocked drains, and unstable slopes.
Earlier, Poonch district authorities had already announced a holiday for August 15 due to dangerous weather. Similarly, in Haveli, Assistant Commissioner Sarfraz Shad confirmed that all schools in Jhelum Valley would remain closed because of bad weather and landslide risks.
This decision comes after a series of devastating cloudbursts in AJK that have destroyed homes, swept away bridges, and blocked major roads.
Tragically, in Naseerabad tehsil of Muzaffarabad, a flash flood caused by a cloudburst claimed the lives of six members of the same family. In Bagh, overflowing rivers and streams continue to threaten nearby areas, while Bhimber Nullah in Samahni is at dangerous flood levels.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
