Jeff Bezos has a signature dish, and it comes with a chef’s endorsement. José Andrés, the Spanish-born chef behind World Central Kitchen, says the Amazon founder is a talented home cook, and that his paella is the proof.
Andrés shared the detail while speaking with HOLA at the Airbnb.org gala in Los Angeles on October 28. He also said Lauren Sánchez Bezos cooks and enjoys time in the kitchen, which suggests the couple’s home meals are not always handed off to someone else.
What Andrés Said About Bezos in the Kitchen

According to HOLA’s report, Andrés first teased that he could not reveal everything he knows about the couple’s food habits. He then called Bezos an excellent cook and named paella when asked which dish he prepares well.
That is a notable compliment coming from Andrés. Paella is a dish with strong regional traditions in Spain, and Andrés has long been one of its best-known champions in the United States. He even picked paella as the main dish for a meal sent to orbit with Axiom Space’s private astronauts, following Spain’s tradition of eating it as a family meal.
Andrés did not describe how Bezos makes it, and no recipe, ingredients, or occasion were mentioned in the interview. Anything beyond the dish itself would be guesswork.
Spain and the US, in Andrés’ Words

Asked which country has the best food, Andrés did not pick one. He named Spain and the United States, crediting his birthplace with shaping his culinary foundation and the US with becoming his home.
The Event Behind the Interview
The conversation took place on the red carpet at the Airbnb.org gala at Milk Studios, which HOLA describes as the nonprofit’s inaugural gala. Andrés curated the evening’s menu. The event supported Airbnb.org’s work providing free, temporary housing to people in crisis. Airbnb.org is a 501(c)(3) public charity that operates separately and independently from Airbnb. airbnb
How Andrés and the Bezos Family Know Each Other

The cooking comment fits a friendship that goes back years. In 2021, Bezos awarded Andrés $100 million for his work with World Central Kitchen through what became known as the Courage and Civility Award. Lauren Sánchez later shared a preview of an interview she conducted with the chef about how the grant money has been used. In June 2025, HOLA’s Spanish edition reported that Andrés and his wife, Patricia, traveled to Venice for the couple’s wedding celebration.
