Alan Ritchson and his wife Catherine are calling it quits after two decades together.
The couple shared the news themselves in a joint Instagram post on September 12, choosing to break the story in their own words rather than let it leak out. “After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the post read.

The statement leaned heavily on the life they’d built rather than the split itself. Ritchson and Catherine, who share three sons, Calem, Edan and Amory, described raising the boys as the one constant that won’t change. They also made a point of saying the years together still mean something to them, writing that nothing could take away the love and respect they’d shared.
Their focus now, according to the post, is co-parenting. They talked about wanting to stay friends and give each other space to grow individually, while keeping their sons at the center of things.
Comments were turned off on the post, and the couple asked fans directly for privacy. “Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in,” they wrote, closing the message with “Cat and Alan.“
The Timeline Is More Complicated Than the Post Lets On
The Instagram announcement makes the split sound recent and mutual, but court records tell a slightly different story. TMZ reported on September 12, citing legal filings, that Ritchson actually filed for divorce back in December. The pair then reconciled in March, only for Saturday’s announcement to confirm the marriage is ending after all.
Two Decades Together
Ritchson, 43, and Catherine met in high school and lost touch for a while before reconnecting at the University of Florida, where Catherine was a student. Ritchson had traveled to Miami for a modeling job at the time. They married on May 12, 2006.
The couple mostly kept their relationship private over the years, though Ritchson occasionally posted about her. For their 19th anniversary in 2025, he shared a video tribute calling their marriage and family the greatest privilege of his life and praising Catherine at length in the caption.
He didn’t post anything for their 20th anniversary this past May, a gap that reads differently now given the timeline TMZ laid out.
Catherine had shown similar support publicly. When Reacher’s third season premiered in 2025, she posted her excitement for her husband’s work, writing that she was proud of him.
Neither Ritchson nor Catherine has addressed the December filing or the reported reconciliation directly. For now, their Instagram statement is the only word from the couple themselves.
