Lady Gaga has a new title to add to her resume, and by the sound of it, she’s already loving it.
PEOPLE confirmed on September 11 that the singer and her fiancé, tech entrepreneur Michael Polansky, have welcomed their first child together. And according to a source close to the couple, parenthood has agreed with both of them in a big way.
“They both beam when they talk about being parents,” the insider shared. Polansky in particular seems to be a changed man these days. “Michael seems lighter, happier,” the source added.
The pair reportedly didn’t rush back to their busy schedules either. Gaga and Polansky both stepped away from work over the summer to focus on their newborn, the source said, a decision that tracks with how private the couple has kept this chapter of their lives so far.
A Decade in the Making
Gaga, 40, and Polansky, 42, have been together since late 2020, when paparazzi caught them kissing at a New Year’s Eve bash in Las Vegas. Four years later, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Gaga made their engagement public while chatting with French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, of all people. Not exactly the setting you’d expect for that kind of announcement, but it fits the singer’s flair for unpredictable moments.
Friends of the couple have described their dynamic as grounded. “Michael is very sweet and supportive,” a source told PEOPLE previously, adding that his work ethic matches hers. “He is hardworking as well, so he appreciates her focus. They are a great team.”
Gaga Has Wanted This for Years
This baby isn’t a surprise if you’ve followed Gaga’s interviews over the past several years. She’s brought up wanting kids more than once, long before Polansky entered the picture.
Back in 2019, during a sit-down with beauty YouTuber NikkieTutorials, Gaga laid out a ten-year plan that included having children alongside more film work. A few months later, in a 2020 InStyle interview, she got even more specific about how much the idea excited her, marveling at pregnancy itself and calling it incredible that a person could carry another human and then be responsible for keeping it alive.
The clearest hint came last October, when she sat down with Stephen Colbert. Asked about her future, Gaga didn’t hesitate. Motherhood, she said, was the role she wanted most. She called it her next starring part, and hoped it would happen.
