A Pakistani citizen has been confirmed dead following a missile attack in the United Arab Emirates, authorities reported. This incident adds to the growing number of casualties resulting from heightened regional tensions.
Though the UAE’s air defense system successfully intercepted a ballistic missile, debris from the explosion fell in the Bani Yas area of Abu Dhabi, leading to the fatality.
This latest death raises the total number of victims from these missile attacks in the UAE to seven, including three Pakistani nationals. The recent fatalities highlight the increasing risks faced by expatriates, with one Pakistani killed in Dubai and two in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier, on February 28, a Pakistani man was killed when missile debris from an Iranian strike fell after an interception. Then, on March 8, another Pakistani was killed in Dubai’s Al Barsha area when falling debris struck his car.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences and directed authorities to make arrangements for the repatriation of the deceased’s bodies.
In another incident, Muhammad Tayyab, a fisherman from Gwadar, was killed on March 8 in Iranian waters when debris from an intercepted missile hit his boat. On March 6, missile debris in Abu Dhabi injured six Pakistani and Nepalese nationals, underlining the growing danger posed by escalating missile and drone activity in the UAE.
The recent surge in attacks follows the February 28 strikes by the US and Israel on Iran, which prompted Iranian missile and drone retaliation targeting Israel and other locations in the region, including the Gulf states. As the conflict intensifies, the safety of civilians and expatriates remains a key concern.
